SO GOOD…I read this book in one day, I couldn’t put it down。 It was so well written, like a friend telling me a wild story of something that happened to them。 Being a Texan, I’m familiar with Austin and Mexico。 This book is a must read!

Karen,
While not hooked on the characters nor buying into the overall storyline, I was impressed by the author's writing style and the fact that I found no proofing errors。 I also enjoyed the flashback sequences during the first half of the book and the ultimate integrity of the main character。 All rarely found in popular fiction these days。 While not hooked on the characters nor buying into the overall storyline, I was impressed by the author's writing style and the fact that I found no proofing errors。 I also enjoyed the flashback sequences during the first half of the book and the ultimate integrity of the main character。 All rarely found in popular fiction these days。 。。。more
Robert Thompson,
A really good readI enjoyed this book。 Took me away from daily stress and into a comfortable fictional tale。 It was hard for me to put down。
Susan Williams,
Entertaining read but a little clumsyThe story is entertaining with lots of twists。 The main character is a bit self-righteous for my taste。 There are plenty of times that descriptions become repetitive and clumsy。 I really didn’t need to hear one more time how blessed they all are。 With a little more editing it could have been better。
Tara Hoefs McGaugh,
Chose this as one of my Amazon First Reads。 Lots of action and I really enjoyed it!
Chris,
It was interesting。 Lots of twists and turns。 Many of them did not seem remotely possible。 But it was an easy read。 Certainly not literature。
James Lamb,
I gave upI wondered why the author's name sounded familiar and then i realized it started another one of his books。 I abandoned that one just as I've abandoned his one。 The story seems interesting but the writing his painful to read。 I've heard it said "show, don't tell" and this book his100% tell。 It's a step above read school early readers but it's stilted, awkward and at times features run-on sentences。 I think it's been spell-checked but not edited。 I gave upI wondered why the author's name sounded familiar and then i realized it started another one of his books。 I abandoned that one just as I've abandoned his one。 The story seems interesting but the writing his painful to read。 I've heard it said "show, don't tell" and this book his100% tell。 It's a step above read school early readers but it's stilted, awkward and at times features run-on sentences。 I think it's been spell-checked but not edited。 。。。more

Rating: 2。5/5 I received this book through Amazon First Reads and after reading the synopsis, I was not expecting much from this novel。 This book played out exactly how I assumed it would。 It is extremely predictable from the start and has no suspense to it。 I feel like it wants to be a story with lots of shock revelations and twists, but it fails to deliver。 The only redeeming quality is that it is a quick, easy read that flows well。 However, my overall feeling of this novel was, meh。 Just meh。
Phyllis,
A new suspense author for me。 This is a Kindle Unlimited First Reads selection。 I am glad I downloaded this fast paced mystery which started with a kidnapping。 Right then and there I was pulled right into the story。 It was a page turner with a lot of action, drama, deception and unexpected twists especially at the end。 Chad Zunker has written other mystery thrillers。 I will have to add him to my list of mystery, suspense writing authors。
Bill Barker,
Like other readers I got this as an Amazon First Reads, never having heard of the author。I finished the book but will not be reading Chad again。 As Misty reviewed earlier, it is a good plot idea spoiled by mediocre writing。 Some elements are downright implausible, almost as if the writer had come up with a situation that he couldn't explain, so he didn't try; he just papered round it。 Like other readers I got this as an Amazon First Reads, never having heard of the author。I finished the book but will not be reading Chad again。 As Misty reviewed earlier, it is a good plot idea spoiled by mediocre writing。 Some elements are downright implausible, almost as if the writer had come up with a situation that he couldn't explain, so he didn't try; he just papered round it。 。。。more

Sucks you in from page 1Action-packed, thrilling novel I couldn’t put down。 I loved the beginning and going through the protagonist’s discoveries with him。 But I particularly liked the concept of the novel and the characterization of the father-in-law。
Joyce,
This was a "First of the Month" Kindle read。 It was a good choice and I found it to be an easy and suspenseful read。 I liked the development of the characters as well as the story plot。 The only part I was disappointed with was the ending of the plot。 It suddenly became quite overblown and unrealistic and spoiled my imagination of this being a real and compelling story。 This was a "First of the Month" Kindle read。 It was a good choice and I found it to be an easy and suspenseful read。 I liked the development of the characters as well as the story plot。 The only part I was disappointed with was the ending of the plot。 It suddenly became quite overblown and unrealistic and spoiled my imagination of this being a real and compelling story。 。。。more

Well。。。 It's a book, I guess。This book reads like a college-level writing project packed with fluff description to hit the right page count。 Also, the author really likes to remind the reader that his main character drives a Tahoe and is extremely successful and well-off。 I'm not necessarily saying I could write better, but if this is the level of mediocrity publishers are looking for, give me two months and I squirt out a better plot than this book had。 Well。。。 It's a book, I guess。This book reads like a college-level writing project packed with fluff description to hit the right page count。 Also, the author really likes to remind the reader that his main character drives a Tahoe and is extremely successful and well-off。 I'm not necessarily saying I could write better, but if this is the level of mediocrity publishers are looking for, give me two months and I squirt out a better plot than this book had。 。。。more

Krishna,
I know most mystery/thrillers can be far fetched but this one took it to a new level。 Readers are supposed to believe that a regular guy working in tech went against Mexican cartels? Yeah, no。Also, I knew this book was doomed when in the first few pages the main guy said something along the lines of “no one really speaks English here?”。 Yeah sorry not everyone speaks English in Mexico (major eye roll)。Also, the author made some comment about police abuse that may be part of the norm in Mexico to I know most mystery/thrillers can be far fetched but this one took it to a new level。 Readers are supposed to believe that a regular guy working in tech went against Mexican cartels? Jen Carter,
This is the best “murder mystery”! Fast paced and mysterious, this story takes off running from literally the first word! And while much of it was predictable, I could not stop flipping the pages trying to unravel the mystery of Joe Dobson。 If you have a couple of hours, open this book。 A couple of hours is all you’ll need! Thanks to Amazon First Reads for this gem!
Reid Burroughs,
An easy read 。 A murder mystery with some interesting plot twists。 I didn't get or believe a few of the characters。 No real red herrings but not everything went the way I thought it would。 If you like crime mysteries you probably would enjoy this quick reading story。 I thought the sentence she s emotionally fragile that's the sentence She's emotionally fragile。 was stupid toward the end of the book。 But Harrah for writing a book。 An easy read 。 A murder mystery with some interesting plot twists。 I didn't get or believe a few of the characters。 No real red herrings but not everything went the way I thought it would。 If you like crime mysteries you probably would enjoy this quick reading story。 I thought the sentence she s emotionally fragile that's the sentence She's emotionally fragile。 was stupid toward the end of the book。 But Harrah for writing a book。 。。。more

Hang on to your seatI read reviews that pointed out shortfalls of this book such as under developed characters, not very descriptive, little deminsion, repetitive。 I AGREE。 But that is also why I have it a 4 ⭐ rating。This guy has witnessed an abduction of his father in law。 With this shock the story only continues to throw blow after blow at this family。 But the story isn't really being told to get us to understand feelings, emotions, of growth of these characters。 Simply it's a guy trying to fi Hang on to your seatI read reviews that pointed out shortfalls of this book such as under developed characters, not very descriptive, little deminsion, repetitive。 I AGREE。 But that is also why I have it a 4 ⭐ rating。This guy has witnessed an abduction of his father in law。 With this shock the story only continues to throw blow after blow at this family。 But the story isn't really being told to get us to understand feelings, emotions, of growth of these characters。 Simply it's a guy trying to figure out how to hold it together while figuring out a potential murder, decades long lies, and potential international money laundering while trying not to be kidnapped, murdered or derailed。 So I loved the fast pace, not bogging me down with useless details。 It's a guy running over and over in his mind what's happened, what's he's learned, what he still needs to do。 If it was told from the wife's point of view it would be more detailed, lots of character fleshing out, and 3x longer。 But this is how the man saw it, attacked it, and handled it。 。。。more
Taylor,
I really enjoyed this book。 Definitely a nice quick read。 Had a lot of suspense and intensity !! I really fell for all of the characters especially Alex and Joe。 I really loved their bond ! My only thing was I felt the ending was a little rushed。 But all in all wonderful book!
Tricia Williams,
I was entertained by this book but it was really only a three star read for me。 Some of the characters actions were just too unbelievable- especially the main character whose name I have already forgotten! Taylor’s husband。 He acted like Jason Bourne and he was a 32 year old married Dad。 Really?? I think Chad Zucker has potential as an author。 This story line was pretty far fetched and most characters needed more development, in my humble opinion。 However, I see glimmers of vast potential!
